Hearthfall is a 3D isometric strategy game set in a rustic medieval village of timber-framed houses, cobblestone paths, dense pine forest and a clear stream crossed by a wooden bridge. At its center burns the village hearth, a stone-ringed bonfire flying a blue banner.
Each day runs on a clock: a counter at the top of the screen shows how long until night falls. Track your wood, stone and food along with your population, then spend those resources from the build bar on palisades, watchtowers, houses, farms and barracks. A windmill, fenced crop field and market stalls round out the settlement as it grows.
Armored soldiers with swords and shields patrol the roads while villagers go about their work. Quick-access buttons let you check your army, find idle villagers, jump to the hearth, or Sound the Horn when it is time to call everyone to arms.
Warm, soft lighting and gentle shadows give the village a calm, golden look, with a quiet tension as the day ticks down toward dark.
