You wake on a slab of damp wood in the Cradle of Forgotten Names, deep beneath the world. A priestly voice — the Liturgist — tells you that God has set down the circlet of folded reasons and walked away. Reality is unraveling. The cathedral has been waiting for you.
Three rooms separate you from the chained being at the heart of the temple. The Vessel hangs in its irons. It has seen you. It does not remember it has been waiting.
When the time comes, you will be asked to choose: unmake the Vessel and ascend. Refuse, and let the Crown stay empty. Or set the Vessel free, and take its place. There is no fourth answer.
