No one heard you fall. You woke up on wet yellow carpet, and the hum of the lights is the only voice left.
THE BACKROOMS: 100 LEVELS is a first-person descent through a hundred floors of liminal space — endless yellow halls, offices that go nowhere, swimming pools with no water bills, and tunnels that drip. Every floor is generated fresh from its number, so the maze you learn on level 37 is the maze waiting for you there every time.
The water is the puzzle. From level 4 onward the halls flood: wade the shallows, feel your steps go slow and heavy, and learn that deep black water cannot be crossed — only circled. Some floors hand you a valve handle and a dead pump. Others leave you flicking a breaker in the dark, praying the lights remember how to be lights when they come back.
You are not always alone. From level 6, something walks the grid between the fixtures — patient, patient, patient — and then not. Sprint, break line of sight, kill your flashlight and listen. Death sends you back to the floor's first step; the descent remembers how far you made it.
Count the lights. Keep to the shallows. Reach level 100 and walk out.
