Edgeworld: Age of Flight drops you into Undertown in first person. Crooked half-timbered houses lean over cobbled streets, and amber light glows from their windows. You begin as an ordinary Fourthling with a few coins in your purse and nothing else decided for you.

Before you step in, you shape a simple identity: type your name, choose a Fourthling man or woman, set your stature with a slider, and pick one of five neckerchief colours. The game tells you that clothes, weapons, skills, ships and property are all earned in the world, not handed out. You might buy a coat from the tailor, look for paid work at the Boom-Docks, or simply wander.

Move with WASD, walk with Shift, jump with Space, and click to look around. Press E to interact, C for your character, M for the map, and Enter to chat. When trouble finds you, draw a weapon with Q and strike with the left mouse button. Your title and purse sit at the top of the screen, starting as a Wanderer with 3 gp 40 q.
